APPLICATION This procedure is provided to guide all members on the safe operation and specifications of Holmatro extrication equipment. This information is to be used during maintenance, training, and emergency operations. OPERATIONAL POLICY Members should operate the tools consistent with the expectations described in Standard Operating Procedure, 306.001, Extrication Equipment Safety Precautions. If the tool is used under water, it should be removed from service and a Holmatro Certified Technician should inspect and clean the tool as soon as possible. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE Members should be familiar with the user interface for the tool and battery prior to operating the tool. Tool condition and associated actions should be followed. The battery pack should be connected to a battery charger when not in use. When the battery pack is full, the battery charger automatically switches on and off at regular intervals to keep the battery level at 100%. After every use the following should be checked: • Battery pack for damage and function. If damaged, it should be replaced. • The operation of the unit. • For unit damage and fluid leaks. • Ensure that the Deadman’s (control) handle returns to the neutral position. PROCESS Changing the battery pack – all tools: • Switch the tool off. • To remove the battery (See Figure 1). (Figure 1) To Install the Battery (See Figure 2): (Figure 2) Powering on the tool – all tools: • Depress power button until LED lights illuminate. Note: If unused for 10 minutes, the tool must be powered on again. Effective Date: February 2022 Robert Camp, Battalion Chief Current Revision Date: 03/13/2023 Section 306.001d Next Revision (1) Date: 03/13/2028 Page 3 of 12 Operating the tool – all tools: • To open the tool, twist the Deadman’s handle clockwise to extend/open. When the handle is released, it returns to a neutral position and the operation stops. To close the tool, reverse the process. • The tool has two stages that are actuated by the Deadman’s handle. The speed of the tool may be changed based on the position of the handle. In the initial movement of the Deadman’s handle, the motor operates slowly. When the handle is rotated further, the tool operates at maximum speed. • Once the tool reaches its maximum force, an audible indicator should sound. Water operations – all tools: • The tool is capable of operating under water at a depth of up to 3 feet for up to one hour. • The tool may go into safe mode while operating under water; the tool may operate slowly. The tool Deadman’s handle may become ineffective and require the operator to stop the tool using the on/off power button. Replacing the CR2 battery for the Ram tool LED laser: • When the laser pointer does not operate when the switch is pushed, replace the battery for the laser pointer. o Remove the screw (B). o Remove the grip head. o Replace the battery in the battery holder (A). It provides a safe push-off point to prevent slipping. The ram support has three push-off points and can be used in combination with every ram. The push-off points are recognizable as bars on which the grip head can be placed. (Figure 13) Cross Support: • The cross support is an accessory to apply the force of a ram on a larger area of a weak structure. The cross support has a push-off bar in the center on which the grip head can be placed. • It can be used in vehicles: o Between a dashboard and the rear seat o Against the roof and floor Effective Date: February 2022 Robert Camp, Battalion Chief Current Revision Date: 03/13/2023 Section 306.001d Next Revision (1) Date: 03/13/2028 Page 11 of 12 (Figure 14) Extension Pipe: • An extension pipe makes it possible to spread along a larger distance. The extension pipe can only be attached to the fixed side of the ram. Only one extension pipe can be used for ram PTR50. The maximum spreading force is reduced automatically by 35% to prevent buckling. Grip Head with Laser – Ram tool: • A grip head with laser allows to highlight the area where the grip head may contact the vehicle. A grip head with laser can only be placed on the plunger side of the tool. Do not look into the laser beam.
