APPLICATION This policy applies to all sworn-safety members at all times. OPERATIONAL POLICY The approved dress uniform ensemble consists of approved cap, jacket, shirt, tie, belt, pants or skirt, socks or hosiery, and shoes. All sworn-safety members are to possess an approved dress uniform within 60 days after completion of their initial probationary period. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE The dress uniform should be worn to assigned funeral details, during formal personnel inspections, designated special details, and as directed by the Fire Chief or designee. The dress uniform jacket is to be worn with approved nametag and badge affixed, as well as appropriate rank insignia on collar of jacket. These items are not to be worn on the dress uniform shirt, with the exception of chief officers who may choose to wear the approved long-sleeved day uniform shirt as part of the dress uniform. Chief officers who have been awarded the designation of Fire Chief through the Commission on Professional Credentialing may wear the CFO collar insignia on the dress uniform jacket in lieu of standard rank insignia. Approved uniform patches are to be affixed to both sleeves of the dress uniform jacket, centered, with top edge of patch 3/4 inches below shoulder seam. Buttons of dress uniform jacket are to be 5/8 inch in diameter and embossed with the appropriate rank insignia. Button color is gold for all chief officers, and silver for all other ranks. Any additional stripe(s) should be affixed with 1/4-inch space between stripes. The color and number of sleeve stripes are contingent on rank as follows: Fire Chief, 5 gold; deputy chief, 4 gold, battalion chief, 2 gold, captain, 2 silver, engineer and firefighter, 1 silver. Maltese crosses are to be worn as part of the dress uniform to indicate years of service. Maltese crosses may be embroidered or a patch, affixed to the left sleeve of the dress uniform jacket, matching in color and centered 1/2 inch above highest sleeve stripe, with 1/2 inch between each Maltese cross to a maximum of four crosses in a row. Subsequent crosses are to be centered on left sleeve, 1/2 inch above existing row(s). Members are eligible to wear one Maltese cross for each five years of service in a full- time paid fire protection position, or for each five years of employment with the department. Each cross is to be affixed to the dress uniform jacket within 60 days following eligibility for same. Approved uniform bars, medals, or awards may be worn on the dress uniform jacket, affixed to the right breast, centered above name plate. Department members who have fulfilled their service commitment to a specialty team may continue to wear the associated specialty team bar. Women may choose to wear an approved dress uniform skirt in lieu of approved dress uniform pant. Hosiery complimentary to skin tone and approved shoes are to be worn in conjunction with the dress uniform skirt. Dress uniform cap is to include approved cap badge in gold finish for chief officers and chrome finish for all other ranks. Approved dress uniform specifications and vendor information are identified below in the INFORMATION section. PROCESS Members permanently assigned to a station are to keep their dress uniform in quarters and available for immediate use or inspection.
