Semonious, Deputy Chief Review Level: 2 Administrative Support: Evelyn Yin-Zepeda, Management Analyst II ADA PURPOSE This policy governs the wearing of approved uniform items for the Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department). APPLICATION This policy applies to all members of the sworn firefighting force. OPERATIONAL POLICY All uniform items are subject to approval by the Fire Chief or designee. Unapproved items shall not to be worn as part of the uniform and shall not be worn under any firefighting, HazMat, or other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) ensemble. While on duty, all officers are responsible for the proper selection and condition of uniform items worn by members under their direct supervision. Companies are to be uniform in appearance (except where approved options are available such as sock color, belt buckle, sleeve length, cap/hat/visor, or sweatshirt/job shirt). Worn, torn, faded, off-colored, stained, excessively wrinkled, or otherwise deteriorated uniform items are not to be worn. Uniforms are not to be worn by members while off duty without prior approval of a chief officer. Members can wear uniform items while travelling directly from home to their assigned duty station, and when returning directly home. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE While on duty, all members should be attired in an approved uniform, and professional in appearance. Civilian attire is not acceptable while on-duty without prior approval from the Fire Chief or designee. Uniforms should always be kept neat and clean; the Section 205.001 Page 1 of 2 only exception to this is during, and immediately after, active emergency and non- emergency operations which result in soiling of uniform items. After completion of any such operation, dirty or soiled uniform items are to be replaced with clean items as soon as is practical. An annual uniform allowance is provided to members of IAFF, Local 202, Unit 5, and Unit 10 with which to purchase uniform items; it is each member’s responsibility to maintain/replace uniform items when necessary. Members should have, at minimum, the following set of clean and neat day uniform items in their possession when reporting for duty (during partial work periods this requirement may be waived with an officer’s approval): • Day uniform shirts (2). • Department issued badge, nametag, and appropriate collar rank insignia. • Day uniform tee shirts (2). • Day uniform pants (2). • Regulation belt and buckle (1). • Safety shoes (1 pair). • Socks (1 pair). • Exercise shorts (1).
