HomeMy WebLinkAbout310.301 - Staff Light Vehicle Fleet Maintenance and Repair Fresno City Fire Department 300 Training and Equipment Manual SECTION 310.301 STAFF AND LIGHT VEHICLE FLEET MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to provide Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) members an outline of the procedures to address staff and light vehicle fleet maintenance and repairs. APPLICATION This policy has been established to provide direction to assigned vehicle drivers regarding the preventative maintenance and/or repairs to assigned vehicles ensuring services are performed in a timely manner and scheduled on a date and time convenient to the assigned driver. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE Assigned staff vehicles should be checked for the following preventative maintenance issues once a month. Checks could be required more frequently if the vehicle is experiencing heavy use. Under the Hood Check : Check the vehicle for proper levels of engine oil, brake fluid, DEF levels, hoses and belts, air filter, battery and the charging system, transmission fluid level, and windshield wiper fluid. Steering System Check : Check for excessive steering wheel play . Brake Check : Check brakes according to the process found in Training an d Equipment Manual, Section 310.001a, Front Line Emergency Vehicle Hydraulic -Brake System Inspection. General Inspection: Check the windshield, windshield wipers, tires, etc. for proper operation and safe working condition. Effective Date: August 2016 William J. Maintenance requests should be initiated by a vehicle maintenance alert. The alert will initiate an email notification to Fleet Supervisors. The Fleet Supervisor will then schedule and/or pick up the vehicle. PROCESS All light fleet vehicles will have a monthly digital vehicle inspection. The supervisor will email the current mileage to the Fire Shop Supervisor and Lead worker. 1. Vehicle Preventative Maintenance and/or Repairs: a. Fire Fleet should be the first point of contact for vehicle maintenance and/or repairs. The following services are provided by Fire Fleet: Oil changes Brakes Engine Transmission Electrical Alignment Air Conditioning Outside vendors include: Kurata’s Automotive Service 606 E. Divisadero Street Fresno, CA 93721 Phone: (559) 264-2045 A-1 Auto Electric 2320 E. Stanislaus Street Fresno, CA 93721 Phone: (559) 485-4427 b. Responsibilities of assigned drivers: i. When preventative maintenance and/or repairs are needed: Effective Date: August 2016 William J. Veiga, Battalion Chief Current Revision Date: 07/25/2022 Section 310.301 Next Revision (1) Date: 07/25/2023 Page 2 of 5 a) Create a vehicle maintenance alert for the need ed preventative maintenance and/or repair. b) The Fire Shop Supervisor and/or Lead Worker will review the vehicle maintenance in Fleet Focus to substantiate the request for additional work on the vehicle. c) The Fire Shop Supervisor and/or Lead Worker will send an email response to the assigned driver with a list of any additional work required. d) Notify the front counter staff of the date to expect the identified service facility to pick -up the vehicle for service. The service facility will pick up the vehicle from headquarters and returns it to headquarters upon completion of all services requested. The assigned driver also has the option to drop off the vehicle at the service facility for repairs and wait for the vehicle while the repairs are being completed. 2. Tire Maintenance and/or Repairs: a. Tire maintenance and/or repairs are provided by the following: America’s Tire 433 E. Shaw Avenue Fresno, CA 93710 Phone: (559) 224-0385 America’s Tire maintains the following account information on file for all services provided to the FFD: Name: Fresno Fire Department Account Number: 34059 Account Phone Number: (559) 621-4000 The following services are provided by America’s Tire: Tire repair Tire replacement Tire rotation and balance Effective Date: August 2016 William J. Take the vehicle to America’s Tire for services needed. i. Upon completion of tire services, ensure the vehicle number is noted on the invoice and verify America’s Tire is emailing the invoice to PublicSafetyFleetFinance@fresno.gov . ii. If a copy of the invoice was given to the assigned driver, it is to be routed to the Fire Shop Supervisor and/or Lead worker. 3. Towing Service: a. Towing Services are provided by the following services: Lamona Towing Service 2740 E. Jensen Avenue Fresno, CA 93706 Phone: (559) 237-9159 OR Action Towing & Dive Team, Inc. 2822 E California Fresno, CA 93721 Phone: (559) 498-9999 The following services are provided by Lamona Towing Service and Action Towing & Dive Team, Inc.: Road service Tow service Not starting Dead batteries b. Responsibilities of assigned drivers: i. During business hours: Notify the Fire Shop and arrange to have the vehicle towed to the appropriate vendor. ii. After business hours: Arrange to have the vehicle towed to the Fire Shop or closest fire facility. The Fire Shop Effective Date: August 2016 William J.
