APPLICATION This policy applies to all automatic fire sprinkler system installations, within the City of Fresno (COF) and contract service areas. These requirements apply to both required and voluntarily installed automatic fire sprinkler systems. OPERATIONAL POLICY Based upon the need for uniformity in application across the Department’s diverse service delivery area, the Department has determined that when permit applicants intend to design, use, and install flexible sprinkler hoses and fittings in automatic fire sprinkler systems, they shall, at a minimum, follow the requirements noted below: 1. Prior to the installation of any flexible sprinkler hoses and fittings, in any automatic fire sprinkler system, a permit for their installation must be obtained from FFD. 2. Permit applicants are prohibited from using the “Under 20 head TI” permit process for the installation of any flexible sprinkler hoses and fittings. Each proposed installation using flexible hoses and fittings must be accompanied by plans and hydraulic calculations in accordance with the CFC and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, prior to commencing work. 3. When permit applicants submit construction documents to FFD for the installation of flexible sprinkler hoses and fittings, the following items must be noted on the construction documents: I. The flexible hose make. II. The flexible hose model number. Effective Date: July 2021 Justin H.
