A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL APPROVING THE SUBMISSION OF AN
APPLICATION TO THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE OFFICE OF COMMUNITY
ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES (COPS) FOR THE COPS IN SCHOOLS 2002 GRANT
FUND PROGRAM AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF ANY RELATED
DOCUMENTS
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services,
administers the COPS In Schools Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2002/2003; and
WHEREAS, the procedures established by the U.S. Department of Justice require the applicant
to certify by resolution approval of the Application to the Office of Community Oriented Policing; and
WHEREAS, the applicant will enter into an agreements with the U.S. Department of Justice,
Office of Community Oriented Policing and any collaborating local agencies and entities for the grant
funded Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRESNO
HEREBY:
1. Approves the filing of an Application for the COPS In Schools program for Fiscal Year
2002/2003 contingent upon grant funds being available; and
2. Certifies, to the extent consistent with all Constitution and local law requirements and this
Resolution, that the City has or will have sufficient funds to operate and maintain the Program; and
3. Certifies that the City has reviewed, understands and, to the extent consistent with all
Constitutional and local law requirements and this Resolution, agrees to the provisions contained in the
Application and Program Guidelines; and
4. Appoints the Chief of Police for the City of Fresno and the Chief Executive Officer for the
City of Fresno, as agents of the City of Fresno, to conduct all negotiations, execute and submit
documents including, but not limited to, Applications, agreements, memoranda of understanding,
payment requests, certifications and assurances and so on, which may be necessary for the completion of
the Program, subject to prior approval as to form by the City Attorney's Office.
